The small print

Things you need to know before placing an order

I have tried to keep this section short and simple, so please take a couple of minutes to read it. Placing an order by email will count as an official commission and signify your acceptance of the terms below.

Quotation and acceptance

Based on the information and documentation a client sends me, I will provide a quote and delivery date by email. If I am unable to accept a commission for whatever reason I will advise this immediately. If I do accept, I will endeavour to deliver a professional job by the agreed deadline.

Payment Terms

My payment terms are 30 days following delivery of the service. In the case of language lessons, payment is due at the end of each month for all lessons during that month.

For new clients and/or large commissions I reserve the right to require a 50% initial or interim deposit, with the balance payable in full within 30 days of delivery.


I will store your name, telephone number and postal/email addresses together with any documents I received from you and/or provided to you for future reference. Upon request I will delete all of those documents from my computer apart from invoices stating your name and address, which I need to keep for tax purposes for a duration of six years.

Please rest assured that I will never pass your personal information to anyone else without your express permission.


I take great care to deliver work fit for purpose and of high quality. Clients need to remember though that translation is not the same as copywriting or even localisation, and that writing styles differ. It is therefore not always possible for a translator to produce exactly the style and terminology which a client might have had in mind.

I will accept reasonable requests for changes which stem from complaints (or disagreement with my interpretation) within two weeks of delivery to the client. If after delivery to the client requests are made based on a client’s amendment to the original text, the additional work involved will be chargeable. If a client believes there are serious grounds for complaint with my work, I reserve the right to have this assessed by an independent arbiter.


If a client cancels an order after I have started work on it, the client will be liable to pay a pro rata amount to cover the work done so far.

If due to unforeseen circumstances I have to cancel my services after having started, I will endeavour to find a suitably qualified colleague to continue the work in hand at the agreed price with delivery as close as possible to the previously agreed deadline.


Neither party shall, under any circumstances whatsoever, be liable to the other for any reason whatsoever.


I am confident that there should never usually be cause for any legal dispute. But in the unlikely event that this happens, then the parties agree to accept the exclusive Jurisdiction of the Courts of England.
